  what are you thoughts on this?.

  i find this alarming because jones was very outspoken and had great guests on discussing topics most other media outlets wouldn't go near.. the fact that many have restricted him access to their medium what does this say on our freedoms of speech?.

  There are no constitutional rights that are unlimited.

  Free speech is a right of all of us, but none of us have the right to insight lawless actions, (Brandenburg v Ohio), make false statement of facts ( Gertz v. Robert Welch,Inc.), use speech that breaches the peace (Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire).

  It appears to me that Jones regularly used his speech in unprotected ways, and that companies which are now being held accountable for how their platforms are utilized and the impact they are have chose to ban him so they are not held liable for any of the outcomes of his actions.

  People do have the right to think and believe what they want. They do not have the right to behave any way they want without restriction.

  crazy how the many of things mentioned are the same thing the borg does, like brainwashing and indoctrinating.

  what's crazier is how he's saying to the congregation not to do research or look up bad news articles because they are all "fake news.

  His first point - when he talks about Jesus is that there is at least some truth in what is said....interesting given all the information coming out about mishandling of sexual abuse cases.

  If they would just admit their mistakes and fix them, they wouldn't have to keep distracting people with smoke and mirrors. Having to keep up lying is like this must be exhausting.

  The reason the Witnesses have whatever child abuse records they do is that they sought to investigate this evil in their midst at a time that others did not. Should they destroy anything, it merely puts them on par with everyone else, who never left a ‘paper trail’ in the first place because they never were proactive. Seen in this light, it does indeed seem that Satan is ‘coming after them.’ It is the quintessential example of the cynical phrase: ‘No good deed goes unpunished.’

  i remember as a small kid not making friends because ultimately they were going to die.

  i never saved anything because money would be useless in the new world.

  Yep. Which is why I can't sit through a meeting any more - before I left, I was having panic attacks just driving into the parking lot let alone walking into the KH. Now, I've enough distance that I can attend one off events without any problem but it has taken about 10 years.

  The sister didn't commit suicide - she was anemic, refused blood and died.

  A young unmarried elder is not unheard of, and people often discuss goals like becoming a CO especially if they are going to date someone - that is in fact, one thing that uber JWs look for when deciding who to date. I knew some who wouldn't date a brother who wasn't at least an MS and preferably an elder.

  I thought the movie was really realistic, and I wondered if they got permission to shoot inside a KH or if they just reconstructed it - the interiors were very accurate in my opinion.

  I thought it was clearly well researched because all of the language used was spot on and current from what I could tell.

  Suburbia was developed and built as a whites only utopia, while people of color were given housing in the inner cities. That may explain your experience. Schools in predominantly white areas have more money, and thus more resources and better education systems. Schools in the predominantly inner cities and more people of color have less money and thus less resources and poorer education systems.

  the first one was when i lived in arcadia.

  all the people i use names on are dead and gone so no probs.

  I also think we should be careful about having too narrow a definition of straight/gay or masculine/feminine.

  there are no inherently masculine or feminine tasks - it is what society dictates - and JWs have a narrow, unrealistic view of what constitutes a "real" man or woman. Men can cook, sew, dance, raise children, etc. Women can build, fix things, be interested in sports.... none of which has anything to do with their sexual orientation. Some men are more emotional, some women more logical. Especially when you have individuals who go against the gender norm are we quick to try and categorize them. Some people may be gay, and others may not. How about we just learn and understand them as individuals without jumping to conclusions?

  There are a few who are out, and many who are not. There is a whole underground network of those who are gay and trying to stay in the organization.

  As far as the women are concerned, there are a lot of lesbian couples who basically have a sexless marriage. I think it is easier for women to live like that than for the men. Women are often less driven in that direction than men and as both sexes age, relationships are more about companionship than sex.

  As long as they are not having sex, there is no disfellowshipping offense. All they have to do is not confess.

  It is not anyone's business.

  so, this week on the clm there was an interesting comment at our kh.. under the "apply yourself to the field ministry" portion this week, there was the bible study assignment based on the publication: who are doing jehovah’s will today?

  published in 2016. the material was from lesson 28 "what can be found on our website?

  there is a footnote at the bottom that reads: .

  His comment is good advice no matter the circumstance. Especially if the householder has read a local newspaper article about a child molester being convicted, or some lawsuit happening - the JW at the door would hopefully want to be aware of the situation or the facts before denying it and telling them they are wrong. They look so foolish doing that - anyone looks foolish denying facts they are unaware of...

  And, he is probably awake ... given he was brave enough to say that publicly on the platform, I would bet he has some strategic way of explaining it without raising too many red flags...perhaps he is in broadcasting, or a journalist, or some other well respected profession.

  I Ain't Got No Religion No More ... (But I Like to Get Myself Some Gospel Music)

  i love gospel music.

  i don't feel like i need to believe in "jebus" to appreciate the music.

  i can't go into a gospel church because i might just get religion again - that or i'll be grabbing the mic on be on the stage waving my hands and praising the lord.. i particularly like dylan's gospel period.
